Note: Born the first child of Edward Howard and Clara Louise ( Hopkins ) Eldridge on January 16, 1918. Attended school at the Sanford Street and Ridge Street School in Glens Falls, New York. After completing grammar school he attended The Glens Falls High School where he was a good student and he participated in school activities, track team and other activities. After high school he went to work for Hall Ice Cream Company as a truck driver and remained with that company until 1939. In the latter part of that year he took the civil service exams for policeman and fireman passing both tests. During the year of 1940 until August 1, 1941 he served as a temporary policeman. On August 1, 1941 he received a permanent appointment to the Glens Falls Fire Department where he worked his way up to Captain on September 21, 1951. While a captain in the fire department he was active in the Boy Scouts where he served as commissioner of the Mohican Council of Boy Scouts. He was also active in the first aid and life saving chapter of the Washington-Warren County chapter of the American Red Cross. He left the fire department and took employment with his brother in law in Endicott Camera Shop, Endicott, NY Leaving that employment he worked for the former Potter Ambulance Service. He was working at the Glens Falls Hospital Emergency Room and while there decided to go back to school " I was working at the emergency room and I felt that I had more to give than that so I decided to do something about it." He studied for his associate in applied science degree under a joint program with the Hudson Valley Community College and the Albany Medical Center. He received scholarships from the Glens Falls Rotary Club, a Glens Falls Foundation grant in aid from the Glens Falls Hospital. Upon his graduation he was allowed to register as a Physician's Associate. At his graduation in 1975 at age 57 he was the oldest physician's associate in New York State. Elliott was employed for many years as Physician's Assistant at the Comstock Prison. This is now known as the Great Meadows Correctional Center. In his later years he loved bird watching, fishing, Camping and hunting. He loved Alaska where he spent time with his son who lived there at the time. In October 1991 he and I met in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. We spent several days together talking about old times and anything else that we could think of to talk about. We rented a condominium on top of a mountain in Tennessee and spent time watching for Eagles and other birds. A completely enjoyable time for me, his brother.
