Note: This is my grandfather who I remember very well. Both Frederick and Georgian lived with my family until he died in abt 1932 (exact date not known at present) then Georgian lived with us until I went into the army in 1943 during World War II, It is my understanding that abt. 1944 or 45 she had to be put in a nursing home. My grandfather Frederick Eldridge loved children. He and his wife lost the first three children. All died before they were three years old, one was never named, it died as an infant. My remembrance of Gramp, as we called him, was that he was a jolly, good natured man. He was always up to some mischief or putting myself and sibling up to some mischief. Gramp wore a very large mustache and was loved very much by his grandchildren. 1870 U.S. Census showed him living with his mother, father and siblings in Caldwell, New York. In 1880 he was married and living in Glens Falls, New York. In the 1900 U.S. Census they were living in Glens Falls on Notre Dame Street. I know that his mother was Diana Bailey the daughter of Loudon Bailey all of Kingsbury, New York. His father Austin Eldridge is still a mystery to me but I will make the connection one day soon I am sure. Gramp Eldridge apparently worked at several different jobs in his life time. Bartender, grocery clerk, carriage man and horse trainer. These were some of the jobs that he worked at. He had been incapacitated by a stroke and so was not working in the years that I knew him. I loved him very much and really missed him after his death. The 1860 New York State Census for Washington County showed Gramp living in the home of Loudon Bailey, his grandfather, he was 1 yr. old at the time. His mother, the daughter of Loudon Bailey and Austin Eldridge, Gramps father all appear on this census in the same household.
