Note: Previous researchers have stated the possibility of a Calvin Havens being a son of Samuel. Found a Calvin in Oswegatchie, St. Lawrence Co., NY and then in Dekalb, St. Law. Co., NY. Corresponded with DeKalb Junction Historian and received a copy of Bible records for this family. Ordered Civil War pension records for Calvin's sons - John N., Henry, and Lorin Havens. The pension record had John's death certificate, noting his parents as Calvin Haven, born Hartford CT, and Phoebe Salsbury, born Hartford CT. I have no information placing the Samuel Havens family in CT. Found no connection with Calvin and Samuel Havens families - other than the Salsbury name. Other possible children of Samuel previously noted by other researchers is a "Betsy McGow". No other information. In the 1860 Oswegatchie Town, St. Lawrence Co., NY, page 359, Nicholas Ashley, with wife Mary A., and son Frank was noted. Also in this household was a Betsey "Magrew?" (Not very readable), age 35, seamstress, B: NY, Nancy Ashley, age 26, Seamstress, B: NY, and a Sharlott "Magrew?", age 12, female, B: NY. May this be the possible daughter Betsey McGow? If so, she was born Abt 1825. She may be the daughter of John & Huldah (Pierce) (Havens) Ashley, and was residing with her sister Nancy Ashley and brother Nicholas Ashley. Other possible children noted by other researchers: Samuel, and a Mary who married a Barber. Found a John Barber in the 1820 Oswegatchie, St. Law. Co., NY Census, page 116, 1830, page 248, and 1850 pages 91, and 155. More research needs to be done on Mary in the census records. The Pierce Genealogy notes that Samuel and Huldah had six children, only five noted and not in order of birth: Nelson, born 6 Aug. 1811 and resided Henry, Dakota; Horace; George W.; Jay; and Clarissa.
