Note: BIO:Harry was born and raised in Danbury and attended Canterbury School and Saint John's Military Academy. He entered the Army during WWII and was part of the Second Armored Division. He served as seargant in the European Theatre in a Sherman tank, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated with the Purple Heart on three occasions during the war. He returned to Danbury and the hat business in late December, 1945. He was married to "Sis" Deakin the following year and settled on Washington Avenue. The children began to arrive and the need for a larger home on Deer Hill where he remained until retiring to Florida in October, 1976. He entered the construction industry when the factory closed in 1955, in a partnership with George "Googs" Roth. Together, they developed the Deer Run project along Candlewood Lake in Sherman. He later moved to Equitable Life Assurance as a salesman and was a member of their "Million Dollar Club". Harry was an avid sports- man, especially golf. He was often found teeing it up at Ridgewood Country Club and played to a two handicap for many years. One of the most memorable stories he told me was about his Harley-Davidson motor- cycle that he kept hidden from his parents until he dumped it in the sand one day near his home. That was the end of that little secret. Harry disliked the inclement weather of New England and retired to Atlantis, Florida and spent the summer months in the Danbury area.
