Note: Odie's obituary follows: O.M. Rankin Noted Cattleman Dies Tuesday Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Odie M. Rankin, 74, who died Tuesday morning at the Madison General Hospital following a long illness. He was a native of Pontotoc, son of the late Joe M. and Emma Lewellyn Rankin. He had lived near Canton for the past 25 years where he was a successful farmer and cattleman. He was a member of the board of directors of the Madison County Coop, a member of the Miss. Hereford Association, a member of the American Hereford Association. He was a veteran of World War One and member of the First Methodist Church. Services were held at the First Methodist Church with his pastor, Rev. Miller Schultz and Rev. Eual Samples, a former pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the Canton Cemetery with the Breeland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mona Gunter Rankin of Canton; three sons, Douglas Rankin of Clarksdale, J.D. Rankin and Bob Rankin, both of Canton; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Campbell of Canton and Mrs. Lewis Benton, Jr. of Atlanta; three brothers, Melvin Rankin and Harvey Rankin of Wills Point, Texas and Charley Rankin of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Langston of Wills Point and Mrs. Arthur Gates of Edgewood, Texas; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers were M.A. Randle, Sam Estess, Jeff Pace, Charley Riddell, Jimmy Stewart, Lester Penn, Bobby Yandell and Fred McKay. Taken from the Madison County Herald, March 7, 1968, Pg. 1.
