Note: The obituary for Aunt Etta follows: Katheryn Gates Funeral service for Katheryn Loretta Gates, 89, Edgewood, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Edgewood First Baptist Church with Rev. David Tomme officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood under direction of the Eubank Funeral Home, Canton. Mrs. Gates died Sunday in a Tyler hospital after a short illness. She was born April 13, 1899, in Water Valley, Mississippi, and spent most of her life in Edgewood, coming from Mississippi as a child. She lived in Dallas a while. She was a homemaker and member of the Edgewood First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association. Survivors include a son, Kenneth R. Gates, Houston; a daughter, Mary Kathryn Halbook, Edgewood; a brother, Charlie E. Rankin, Austin; a sister, Lillian Langston, Wills Point; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Loyce Lewellyn, Larry Halbrook, Gerald Don Bennett, Jerry Langston, Bill Langston and Robert Bennett. Taken from the Wills Point Chronicle, Friday, July 8, 1988, Page8A.
