Note: Marvin was struck by a train between Elmo and Terrell, Texas. He did not die immediately, but, it is said that he was a free bleeder, and bled to death. His obituary was as follows: Two Men Killed on Crossing Near Elmo J.A. Goss and Marvin Rankin were killed Thursday morning about 9:30 oclock, at the rail- road crossing on the Dixie high- way just west of Elmo, when their Ford touring car was struck by east-bound passenger train No. 6. Mr. Goss was killed instantly and his body was bad- ly mangled, a leg being cut off by the train. Mr Rankin died in the Terrell sanitarium soon after his arrival there, in an ambu- lance sent to the scene of the accident as soon as the news was received in Terrell. The two men had been marketing fruit in Dallas and Terrell and were on a return trip when the acci- dent occurred. The home of Mr. Goss is in the Mt. Pisgah community and he is survived by his wife and five children. Marvin Rankin, who is about 20 years of age, re- sided in the Tundra community, his father being H. B. Rankin. The tragic and untimely death of these two men has been a great shock not only to their immediate relatives but to the entire county. The bereaved families have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow. Taken from the Canton Herald, Friday July 8, 1921, front page.
