Notes
a. Note:   my correspondent passed on the following obituary: I believe from anewspaper in or near Howard, KS. Mary H. Pennington, died June 5th(1881) at her residence near Millard, Missouri. Mrs. Mary H.Pennington, wife of the late deceased William V. Pennington, aged 89years. Deceased was born in Ghent, Carrol Co., KY., in 1793. Shemarried in 1808 and moved to Illinois with her husband where she livedtwo years, and from thence to Missouri where she has since resided. She was a mother of 15 children, 11 or whom survive her, Mrs. C. W.Oliver of this vicinity (Howard, KS) being a daughter. She sought andfound the Saviour while young and always tried to live a devotedChristian life, and when death with all its terrors came she calmlysiad, "I am ready to go". As the sun went down the last night of herlife, she said something like this, "As the sun sinks in the goldenwest, just so my soul will sink to rest, and when to-morrow's sun isrisen, this body will be out of prison." During the last hours ofher illness her sufferings were great, burt she bore them with thatmeek submission which always attends the Christian Spirit. She hadbeen a member of the Church for 70 years, and died trusting herHeavenly Father to give her the home prepared for her. She leaves mayrelatives and friends to mourn her loss; but their loss is her eternalgain.
