Note: Joseph Lee was an interesting person to talk with. He He enjoyed telling about past events in his life. Bartering was a pleasure to him in his younger days. He later owned and operated a grocery and general merchandise store in Tenneson, Texas and was also postmaster of the office that was located in his store. His daughter Beulah and her husband J.N. Morgan lived with him in the back rooms of his store. In later years he sold the store and bought a ranch near Colorado City with the understanding that Beulah and J.N would raise cattle and care for him in return for a share of the profits. A few years later, Joseph has a stroke and never fully recovered. Things became unpleasant when his physical needs were not cared for. He then leased the place to a niece and her husband-- Wilba and Gene Lambert. After threatening to enforce eviction, Beulah and her husband moved and Wilba and Gene became very satisfactory tennents. During this time Grampa (Joseph) became diabetic. He lived the remainder of his life with his daughter Virgie and her family. He spent most of his winters in Conroe with his son Lee and would probably spent more time there had it not been for his intolerance to the heat in that area. Granpa went into diabetic coma in 1944 and died shortly thereafter.
