a. Note:   In 1862 Ola Larsson moved with his father Lars Bendikson from the Fivik farm in Kyrkjebo District to the Le farm in adjacent Arnefjord District. They later moved to the Hellen farm, from which the family derived its name in America. The family is listed in the 1875 Census of the Vik District, residing on the Bakken farm (which was apparently part of the Nese farm) with their first two children. Ola Larsson is listed as a 'Husmandudenford' and 'Skradder' which translates to cottager and tailor, which confirms the recollection of his grandchildren. In the fam history of the Hellen farm pulbished in Norway, it mentions that Ola Larsson's brother Hans Larsson and sister Ingeborg both migrated to America. Ola Larsson Hellen is thought to have married a second time and the children of that marriage use the surnam Ness.
