They were married in Norway and came from Arnefjord, which was a neighboring town to Vik, Norway, where th Bungums came from. Hans is mentioned in the Hellen farm history published in Norway as having migrated to the United States. His family is listed in the 1885 and 1895 Minnesota state Census in Vernon Township, Dodge County, Minnesota and tghe 1905 Minnesota state Census of Sargeant, Mower County, Minnesota. His eldest daughter is listed in the census records as having been born in the United States, which indicates Hans Hellen probably emigrated priot to 1880.
