Note: H815
Note: Thomas R. Tillett was born 1795 and died 1831 (at sea). He was married to Mary "Polly" Johnson, born 1807 and died 1872. After Thomas R.'s death she married John Mann. Thomas R. Tillett only had 2 Children: Lovie Tillett married John Wescott and Josiah Holly Tillett (born 1829, died 1883). Thomas R. Tillett was the only son of Samuel and Lovie Ansell Etheridge Tillett. Lovie Ansell was first married to a Wescott, and married Samuel after her first husband's death. Samuel was born in 1768 and died in 1812. The Children of Lovie and Samuel were: Sallie (born 1800, died 1856) who married Joshua Harrison (born 1800); Jesse who died as a child; and Thomas R.,. Samuel was the son of Thomas L. Tillett, whose wife is unknown to me. The children of Thomas L. Tillett, Sr. are: Thomas L. Tillett, Jr, born 1762 died 1827, married to Dolly Baum, born 1776 died 1829; Issac, born 1765 died 1815, married an Indian; Samuel, mentioned above; Hannah, born 1770, married Caleb Dowdy; Sarah, born 1773, married William S. Etheridge; and Abia, born 1775, married a Doughty or Dough. Thomas L. Tillett, Sr. was born in 1735 and died in 1796. It is believed (but I cannot substantiate at this time) that Thomas L. was an only child. His father was William Thomas Tillett who died either in 1782 or 1765 was possibly married to a Sarah. I have a possible birth date of 1711, but I am unsure. There is information to suggest that William came to the Outer Banks from Bath, NC...he also was supposedly involved in an early rebellion there. As I have more information regarding this subject I would be more than happy to share. I hope that this information is useful in your search. If you ever make it to the Outer Banks, the burial places of Tilmon, Josiah Holly, and Thomas L. Tillett, Jr are located just off the road in the Nature Conservancy at Nags Head Woods. There are also WONDERFUL large portraits (very early photographs) of Josiah Holly Tillett and his wife Lefina Harris Tillett hanging in the Timothy O. Tillett homeplace in Wanchese on Roanoke Island.
