Note: From: "B. Warner" <[email protected]> Subject: [BLACKWELL-L] Mary Jane Crockett (Blackwell) Nixon Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 00:01:30 -0600 [Leadwood Press, Leadwood, Missouri/Dec. 13, 1934] -- MARY JANE CROCKETT BLACKWELL -- Mary Jane Crockett Blackwell was born in Wyth County, Wythville, Virginia, March 12, 1854, and died at Irondale [Washington County], Mo., on December 3, 1934, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 2 days. She was united in marriage to Alfred F. Nixon on June 6, 1872, in Bickell, Knox County, Indiana. To this union six children were born, four boys and two girls, two of whom preceeded her in death, namely, John and Mamie. The living are: Fred W. of Hopewell, Mo.; Walter A. of Herculaneum, Mo.; Earnest C. of Potosi, Mo.; and Lucie, now Mrs. C. C. Carolyn of Irondale, Mo., with whom she made her home for the past ten years. She professed religion and joined the Methodist church at Rock Springs in 1876 under the preaching of Rev. Effinger. She was a member of that church until the church was discontinued and then she moved her membership to the Hopewell church, leaving it there until moving to Irondale, where she was a member until her death. She was a member of the Methodist church for 58 years. She was a member of the Irondale Chapter No. 166 Order of Eastern Star and had been for several years. She was a resident of Washington County 60 years. She leaves to mourn her loss four children, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a devoted Christian and a loving mother. Her last words were that she was going to meet her loved ones who had gone before and requested that her children all meet her in Heaven. Note: Mary Jane Crockett Blackwell Nixon is buried at Hopewell Cemetery in Washington County. There are the following Blackwell graves there: Blackwell, Nancy (1831-1905); Blackwell, Jane, wife of W. M. (born Westmoreland Co., England) 1813-1896; Blackwell, William M., born Montgomery Co. S. C. (1814-1911). Does anyone know what relation, if any, the above Blackwells are to Mary Jane Crockett (Blackwell) Nixon? Also, I would like to know if any of the above Blackwells connect in with Jeremiah Blackwell's family. Thanks! B.
