He had no former marriage other than to the Mary Coe found listed as a claimant for pension benefits, and he was married to Mary in September 1857. On Widow�s Pension application, widow of JASON COE is listed as: MARY COE, P. O. is listed as Warm Springs, Randolph County, Arkansas. She applied for pension July 12, 1890. A child was listed and his name was: JOHN HENRY COE, born May 16, 1878, and he was 16 years old in 1894. In 1860 he lived in Blount County, Alabama, but later returned to Tennessee. A private with Company I, 43rd Regiment, Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, Confederate Army--the same company in which Allan M. and Stephen Columbus Coe of Bradley County, Tennessee served--he enlisted January 1, 1862, at Charlestown, Tennessee, for a period of one year. In naming those who served with him in Company I, James Matlock Culton listed Allen M. Coe, Jason Coe, W. Dugan, S. E. Dugan, F. M. Ellison, R. A. Ellison, L. W. Lawson, Mich Lawson and 79 others. Jason was at Vicksburg, Mississippi when the city was overwhelmed by the Union Army. Captured July 4, 1863, he signed the oath of allegiance to the US Government July 9, promising never to bear arms again against the federal government. On September 1, 1864, at Calhoun, Tennessee, the same date and place as his brother Newt, he enlisted as a private with Company A, Fifth Regiment, Tennessee Mounted Rifles, Union Army, commanded by Charles A. Pickens, to serve for a period of one year. At the time he stood five feet, eight inches tall, and was of a dark complexion. He was honorably discharged July 26, 1865 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was noted that he had lost a cartridge box, a waist belt, a gun sling, a set of spurs, and a horse brush in camp. He was sued by Sarah Cloniger in Polk County in 1869. Before 1880 he moved to Randolph County, Arkansas, where he made his home near Warm Springs. He died there July 8, 1887. He was married in September 1857 in Walker County, Georgia, by Esquire Baker, justice of the peace, to Mary Ann Clayton, born June 1835 in Georgia , do Thomas Clayton of Brown Town Valley, Walker County. She acquired a 160-acre farm in Randolph County, Arkansas, May 31, 1890. Children: 1. P. A. S., b. 1860 Blount County, Alabama 2. Nancy Eveline, b. 1864 in Tennessee, m.
