BURIAL: "MEMORIES of WAYNE WATERS"; November 2001 My Daddy said the when Naomi died, Granddaddy and James Shelton made her a coffin at home. He told me that Mattie Sue Shelton, James wife, combed cotton to remove the seeds and placed it around the baby and covered the cotton with white cloth. She was buried in Caddo Cemetery without a tombstone. Grandmother picked cotton when she was in her fifties and purchased a marker for her and her brother Henry.
BURIAL: From Donna Waters Evans; January 2002 I can remember riding down the country roads in the back of my Granddaddy's truck, racing along at probably 20 miles an hour with the wind tangling our hair and making our eyes water. We would go to the cemetery and Grandmother would get out and pick up the fruit jar from the center of the grave. This fruit jar held a piece of white paper with the name of her child written on it and the dates of it's birth and death. This was her way of marking the burial place of her children. When the paper was faded and unreadable, she would replace it with a new one. She did this year after year, over and over until she could purchase them a marker.
