Shelton, 41 years old Sheffield man, who was found hanging by his belt in the Town Creek Jail Wednesday afternoon, were held Friday afternoon at Conway Baptist Church. The Rev. Joe Henderson officiated. According to officers, Shelton had been arrested for driving while intoxicated about nine Wednesday morning three miles north of Town Creek on State Highway 101. Town Creek Chief of Police W. L. Terry found the man hanging by his belt when he entered the jail about 4 p. m. Wednesday afternoon. A coroner's jury returned a verdict of suicide by hanging a short time later. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Shelton, Sheffield' three sons, Hershel, McCoy and Billy Joe; three sisters, Mrs. Grady Waters, Trinity, Mrs. Alvie Bryant, Moulton, and Mrs. Grover Gillespie, Moulton 2; two brothers, Esley Shelton, Decatur, and Phil Shelton, Trinity 1. Shelton, a former Red Bay resident, was an employee of Reynold's Alloy Co., for five years and a member of the Red Bay Masonic Lodge and A. F. of L. Burial was in Sivley Cemetery of Moulton directing.
