DEATH: "NEWSPAPER ARTICLE"; News-Plaindealer; Published Sparta, Illinois; August 19, 1932 (Copy of article sent by Look-up volunteer) Unidentified Man Loses Life Under Train Last Night Body found on M. & O. Track Near Old No. 4 Mine Just Before Midnight The body found along the M. & O. tracks near No. 4 Mine last night was identified at 8 o'clock this morning as John H. Willingham, 56, farmer living on the ??? ???????? ???? four miles east of Sparta. Identification was made by two sons, who lived with their father. The two sons told the News-Plaindealer that Mr. Willingham left home yesterday morning to look at a farm he planned to rent, south of Sparta. When he did not return home last night, the boys started a search for him this morning. Mr. Willingham came here from Jasper, Ala. about two years ago. He is survived by five children here and five in Alabama. The body of an unidentified man, about 63 years old, was found along the Mobile & Ohio railroad tracks, three fourths of a mile south of Old No. 4 mine, by boys in search of a bee-tree, shortly before midnight last night. The skull had been cut in half, apparently by the wheels of the train, and the brain was scattered along the track. Coroner G.A. Jackson, notified soon after the discovery, ordered the body removed to Sparta. It was taken to the Elker undertaking rooms, and an inquest will be held at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the coroner's office. In the meantime, efforts will be made to establish, identification. A boy living in a shack near No. 4 Mine made the discovery as he and ?????? were walking along the track. ?????? Miller, living near-by, was advised of the find, and notified local M & O employes. Coroner Jackson went to the scene, but because of ???????? of the spot where death occurred a section crew had to be ?????? to bring the body to a ???????. Coroner Jackson says there was a odor of alcohol near the scene, that he believe the man ???????????????????????????????????(can not read one whole line). The entire back part of the skull was cut off, but there were no other injuries on the body. The man is apparently about five feet, ten inches tall, weight about 170 pounds, and wore a blue shirt and blue jumper. He had on no underwear. His shoes were in good shape.
