Note: While for years I believed that Levi was the Levi Wright who was the son of Ebenezer Wright and Rachel (Marsh) Wright, who was born in 1793 in Mansfield, Windham Co., Connecticut and moved with his family to Pompey, Onondaga County, New York in 1795. THIS IS NOT CORRECT. Instead, his father was Elizur Wright from Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut. While a town birth record has not been located, a record does exist that on May 4, 1794 "Levi Wright son of Elizur Wright" was baptized at First Congregational Church, Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut. His brother, Sylvester, was baptized at the same church on September 8, 1793 as was his sister, Lucy, on October 23, 1796. Levi's mother, Hannah Wright, died in Wethersfield on October 21, 1797 at the age of 30. In the spring of 1803 Levi's father, Elizur Wright "formerly of Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut", purchased 122 acres from Jeremiah White in the Town of Owego bordering the side of Owego Creek where it joins the Susquehanna River. (Tioga County Deed Book 6, page 131) Levi Wright married Lydia Chapman, the daughter of Elisha and Miriam (Fox) Chapman about 1817, probably in Owego, New York. In 1820, Levi and his wife, Lydia, were listed as living in Owego, Tioga County (then part of Broome County), New York adjacent to Lydia's parents, Elisha and Miriam Chapman. 1820 US CENSUS - Owego, Broome (later Tioga) Co., New York - page 34: Levi Wright [the only Levi Wright listed in New York State] 1 male under 10: Elizur 1 male 26-45: Levi (26) [born 1794] 2 females under 10: Mary Maria (2), Rhoda (1) 1 female 16-26: Lydia (24) [born 1796] Elisha Chapman [listed adjacent to Levi Wright] 1 male under 10: 1 male 10-16: *2 males 18-26: *1 male over 45: Elisha [born c. 1769] 1 female under 10: 3 females 16-26: 1 female over 45: Miriam [born c. 1768] * 3 involved in agriculture 1820 US CENSUS - Owego, Broome (later Tioga) Co., New York - page 35: Sylvester Wright [brother of Levi Wright] 1 male under 10: Sylvester's son 1 male 26-45: Sylvester [born 1793] 1 female 16-26: Sylvester's wife 1825 NEW YORK STATE CENSUS (Owego, Tioga Co., New York (FHL Film 816363 #2): Levi Wright 2 males in household 4 females in household 0 males 18-40 1 able to vote 1 females under 45 0 females 16-45 3 females under 16 A list of letters at the Owego Post Office on January 24, 1826 includes Levi Wright. In addition, living close by was Hiram S. Chapman (male age 30-40) who was possibly a brother of Lydia (Chapman) Wright. Wright to Lucy Wright 20 acres (Deed Book K, page 707) _____ Levi Wright purchased land from Elizur Porter in Des Moines Co, Iowa. In 1852 he sold the land to Lucy Wright. Lucy was living with Elizur Porter's family in the 1856 state census. She was 60 years old and was Levi Wright's sister - thus there appears to be a tie in with the Porter family. After Jonathan Bishop died in 1883, Nancy (Wright) Bishop sold the land and, in the deed, described herself as "a widow and legatee of Lucy Wright." The property is located 2 miles north of Danville, Iowa. In the 1880 census Lydia Wright was living with Jonathan and Nancy Bishop. Nancy moved soon after Jonathan's death to near Green Castle, Missouri and purchased 80 acres of land. In the 1852 Iowa Census Lvi C. Wright appears in Danville township, Des Moines County, Iowa. In the 1860 US Census Timothy King (age 46) and Mary (Wright) King (age 42) were still living in Richland township, Miami County, Indiana.
