  Newport Hoosier State - Obituary - August 22, 1900: Mrs. RACHEL HEAD of Danville, Illinois, a former resident of Eugene, this county, where she was well known and resided for many years, died suddenly of heart disease on Monday of last week, August 13, 1900. She was a most excellent lady and had many warm friends in this county. She was born near where the town of Cayuga is now located, and was nearly 61 years of age. She was born November 26, 1839, on the old home farm at the army ford on the Big Vermillion, Northeast of Cayuga, where General William H. Harrison's Army crossed on its way to Tippecanoe, where a bloody and famous battle was fought with the Indians in 1811. Her remains were brought to Cayuga by the C. & E.I. railway on Wednesday last and laid to rest in the cemetery near the old homestead. A prayer and short services were held at the cemetery. The pall bearers were Jerome B. Thomas, Eli H. McDaniel, Emit Vanhoutin, Henry O. Peters, James B. Iles, James Malone, E.W. Johnson, Tingley Hold, William Roach and Leonard L. Malone. _____
