Notes
a. Note:   Albert Head was the son of Francis Head. He operated a woolen mill in Eugene and later in Perrysville, in partnership with Riggs. The Head home in Eugene was directly north, across the street from the Ladd house. Albert and Rachel had three daughters Rose, Jane and Chloe. Albert Head died in 1876, Rachel died in 1900 and both are buried in the Shelby family cemetery.
Rose Head, the youngest daughter of Rachel and Albert Head, was born in1864. She married O. B. Wainscott in 1880 and he died the following year and left no children. Rose died in 1931 and both are buried in the Shelby cemetery.
Jane Head, the second daughter of Rachel and Albert Head, was born in 1865. She married William E. Fithian of Danville, Illinois in 1895. They had no children. In 1934 Jane died and very shortly afterward her grief stricken husband having no desire to live without her lay down on her grave in Springhill cemetery and shot himself.
This leaves Chloe, the third daughter of Rachel and Albert Head as the last survivor of the entire Vermillion Co. Shelby family with the exception of the living descendants of Mary (Shelby) Dickenson. It also left Chloe as the sole owner of the Shelby land. Some of the land in Section 28 had been sold to the Stevenson family of Bloomington, Illinois, (relatives of Adlai Stevenson) but it still left a farm of about 800 acres.
Chloe Head, born in 1867, married Guy M. McDowell, a Danville, Illinois attorney, in 1891. They had two daughters, Rachel and Jane, born in 1892 and 1896 respectively. Rachel married Harry Webber, a Danville, Illinois jeweler, in 1916. They had one daughter, Martha Rose, born in 1918 who married Harold J. Hilliger. The McDowells youngest daughter, Jane, married Cecil S. Jackson in 1918. They had three children, one boy William and two daughters, all married and had children. _____
