Note: Louis Joseph Jacques immigrated to United States in 1854 with wife and children. Louis Joseph JACQUES (Evrard, Claude) was born on 13 Jun 1809 in Laiche, Chassespierre, Luxembourg and was christened on 15 Jun 1809 in Chassepierre, Luxembourg, Belgium. He died in 1868 in Perry County, IN and was buried in Lanman Cemetery, Perry County, IN. Reference 12 (Item 4 - Chassepierre) shows Louis Joseph Jacques born 17 June 1809. (Reference 43 shows 13 Jun 1809 birth.) Reference 28, Item 4, Chassepierre, shows 15 Jun 1809 baptism of Louis Joseph Jacques, son of Evard Jacques and Julienne Saute. Sponsors were Joseph Jacques and Margueritte Lejeune, his wife. Reference 43, Item 2 contains extract of birth record from register of Chassepierre. It gives Louis Joseph's birth date of 13 June 1809. Reference 46, Item 3, contains 13 Jun 1809 birth record of Louis Joseph Jacques, son of Evrard Jacques and Julienne Saute. Witnesses included Jean Jacques, 31 of Azy. Reference 43, Item 2 shows 17 Apr 1833 marriage of Louis Joseph Jacques and Anne Marie Bissot. Louis Joseph is shown as a farmer, age 24, born in Laiche on 13 Jun 1809, son of Evrard Jacques, farmer of Laiche, and the late Julienne Saute. (Laiche is a village approximately 2 km northeast of Chassepierre.) Reference 43, Item 2 contains "Milice Nationale Certificat" (national militia) for Louis Joseph Jacque showing birth in Chassepierre on 13 June 1809, a farmer, son of Evrard Jacques and Julienne Saute of Laiche. Text reads: " ete inscrit pour la milice nationale dans la commune de Chassepierre en 1828, qu'il lui est echu au tirage le no. 6, et qu'il a ete exempte du service. Donne a Arlon, le 10 Avril 1833." Reference 43, Item 3, shows on 21 Mar 1839, Louis Joseph Jacques, age 28, declares that Evrard Jacques, age 66, born in la Laiche, spouse of Marie Barbe Vibain, housewife, and son of the late Claude Jacques and Marie Therese Naltiz, died in the house of Louis. Reference 14 Marriage Record of son August, lists given name as Joseph. Reference 14 Marriage Record of son Jean, lists given name as "Ludovici Joseph" or Louis Joseph. Listed in 1860 Census as living in Leopold Township, Perry County, Indiana with age of 53. Occupation listed as Farmer. In this Census, he is listed as Joseph James, living with Mary (wife), and sons August, Amable and Nicholas. Reference 32 (Vol 2, page 197) shows a Louis J. Jaque, died 1868, age 59 years (implies birth about 1809), buried in Lanman Cemetery which is SE of Tipsaw Lake, Perry Co. off French Ridge County Road. According to Reference 1, the Lanman Cemetery is on land once owned by Harriet James Naviaux, a cousin of Emily James. (Harriet was same person as Henrietta M. James who married August Joseph Naviaux.) It is possible that Louis Joseph may have lived with Harriet and her husband in his later years. Reference 34 shows a marriage record of a Louis Joseph Jacques to Catharine Mathew on 15 Mar 1865 (recorded in Book 3, page 210). Not clear if this is same Louis Joseph. However, there are several deeds that transferred land from a Louis Joseph and wife Catherine or from a Joseph and wife Catherine to August and Nicholas James. This at least re-enforces a linkage. Inspection of these deed records is still required along with searching for a filed Will or death record of Louis Joseph. Based on an obituary for son Nicholas, Louis Joseph probably immigrated to the US with his family around 1853. Based on the 1900 Census record for son August, immigration may have been in 1854. The 1920 Census record for Nicholas James also shows 1854 as the immigration year.
