Notes
a. Note:   Mary Josephine James, born December 6, 1863 never knew her father because he died in the Civil War three months before she was born. John enlisted into the 93rd Regiment, Company G, of the Indiana Volunteers on August 28, 1862, at Cannelton, Indiana. He was trained at New Albany and Madison, Indiana. John suffered from an illness for several months and was home on sick leave from November, 1862 until August 1, 1863. He joined his Regiment in Mississippi and died at Markhams Plantation, Big Bear Creek, Mississippi, of continuous fevers, on August 16, 1863. Her mother married August J. Dupont on April 2, 1866. August was also in Company G. of the 93rd Regiment. Mary was raised in the Dupont household along with 14 half brothers and sisters; Mary Henrietta, Sarah Alice, Henry, Theresa, Mary Ann, Mary Josephine, Edmund Peter Joseph, August, Alphons, Robert Frank Curran, William Paul, Emma Sarah, Margaret, Mary Louise and Louis John Dupont.
Mary Josephine JAMES (JACQUES) (Jean (John) JAMES (JACQUES), Louis Joseph, Evrard, Claude) was born about 6 Dec 1863 in Perry County, IN and was christened on 24 Jan 1864 in St. Augustine Church, Perry Co. IN. She died on 3 Mar 1932 and was buried in St. Augustine Catholic Church Cemetery, Leopold, IN.
Reference 14 shows Josephine Jacque, born Dec 13, 1863, daughter of John (departed) and Elisabeth Rhods. She was baptized Jan 24, 1864. Her sponsors were August Jacque and Elisabeth Johnson. A later Priest note corrected the birth date to Dec 3, 1863.
A record of Mary Josephine Jacque's birth on 6 Dec 1863 was reproduced as part of a certificate for Widow's Pension (for Elizabeth Dupont formerly Jacque/James) on 24 March 1879.
Reference 8 shows her birth date as 6 Dec 1863 in a reference to the biography of her husband, R.K. Quinlin.
Reference 15 shows M. Josephine Jacques, born 13 Dec 1863, baptized 24 Jan 1864, daughter of John (departed) and Elis. Rhods. Sponsors were Aug. Jacque and Elis. Johnson.
Civil war papers dated 28 April 1879 shows that Francis Claudel was appointed guardian of Mary J. James. This Francis Claudel could have been "Francis Joseph Claudel" who was married to Magdelaine Kasper (or Caspar) and lived in Leopold at this same time. Francis Joseph may have been Elizabeth Rhodes' uncle.
Reference 47 lists Mary J. Quinlin (wife of Robert), born 6 Dec 1863, died 3 Mar 1932.
