Note: Baxter was born in Warren County Tennessee. The family moved around a lot. In 1910 they were in White Co., Tennessee. His mother died in 1912 0f TB. In 1920 they lived in Fentress Co., Tennessee and he was listed in the census as being 14 years old and was a coal miner. During the 1920's Baxter worked in copper mines in Pitcher, Oklahoma and Bisbee, Arizona. During the depression he was in the Civilian Conservation Corp. After the depression he worked for a contractor for Southern Railroad. He was working at a race horse farm at Lexington, Kentucky when he met Lucille. They worked together at Mrs. Burts farm, called Alleghan Hall, for about a year and were married at Cannelton, Indiana in 1938. Baxter and Lucille bought 65 acres from John and Bertha Fox, sec. 8, twnshp 4, Perry County, Indiana, on April 20, 1939. It was known as the Velcein Place. Later more acreage was bought and timber was sold. Baxter farmed and raised livestock. He never owned a tractor. His horses were his pride and joy. This was the same farm owned by Leroy & Loretta Quinlin from 1913 until 1928 they then bought the Clutinger place. Lucille was born here as well as most of her brothers and sisters. Baxter & Lucille's children were born at the Velcein Place except Norma Jean, who was born in New Albany. They lived there during WWII when Baxter worked at Dupont Ammunition Plant at Charlestown, Indiana. In May, 1954 they sold the place to Elmer Lynch and moved to New Albany, Indiana.
