John and Clara in divorce court in 1885
In regard to John Vaupel, my gg-grandfather, he was born and raised in Rosenthol, Hesse-Cassel, Germany. He first married Clara Clutinger of Perry Co and had 5 children, John L., Mary, William Winfield (my grandfather), Herminia and Clara. Divorced in 1886. Clara died in 1886 and is buried in New Harmony, IN. He married second wife, Catherine Kielman (born 5/1859) on 5/16/1889 in Perry Co.. Their children were Henrietta M. (b-8/1890, Christina (b-11/1891, Karolina (b-10/1893, Ernest A. (b-4/1897, and an unknown stillborn child. Catherine died 12/11/1901 of childbirth in Posey County and buried in Bellfountaine Cemetary in Black Township. Supposedly, John went to Arkansas or Oklahoma for a time, then came back and married Elizabeth Marx (9/18/1902, Posey County) If there was any children of that union, I have no knowledge of it. Elizabeth died and was buried at Caborn Methodist Church in Posey County along with William Winfield and Rachel Ellen (Layer) Vaupel. I just found out that John is buried there also but has no tombstone or any records of death. Church Board person met with me on Thursday of last week as our family is planning on possibly going to put a tombstone on gravesite. I hope this helps some and if anyone knows for sure where John was when he died or has a copy of death certificate, I would like to have copy of same. I heard he might possibly died in Guthrie, Oklahoma
