Baxter had been working for Mrs. Burt for a year when Lucille arrived. They worked together and married about a year later on Oct 3, 1938 in Cannelton, Indiana. Baxter and Lucille bought the Perry County, Indiana farm, called the Velcein Place from John and Bertha Fox on April 20, 1939. This was the same farm previously owned by Leroy and Loretta Quinlin. Lucille and most of her brothers and sisters were born there. Baxter and Lucille continued to work for Mrs. Burt for another year then moved to the Perry County farm and started their family.
