In 1851 Peter was an agricultural laborer living at Bonhard, Edzell. In 1861 he lived in Fettercairn, Kincardine with his children John Elizabeth, and James. In 1871 he was an agricultural laborer at West Road The Burn East Gate Cottage, Fettercairn with wife Jane, children Robert and Jane, and step-children James Kinnear and Helen Gall. In 1881 he was a farm servant at Inverkeillor. In 1891 he lived in Inverkeillor with his wife Jane.
