a. Note:   , Montrose. In 1853 he was a blacksmith at Castle Street, Montrose. He was later a coachsmith. In 1861 David was a blacksmith at 4 Ponderlaw Lane, Arbroath with his wife and children William, James, and Halbert. In 1881 he was a blacksmith in Brechin. In 1891 David and Mary Ann lived in Arbroath. In 1901 Daniel and Mary Ann lived in Brechin with children Jemima W. and Calvin.
  An extract of his testament reads: David Doig, retired blacksmith, Caldrum Cottage, Montrose Street, Brechin, died 21 March 1912, at Brechin, testate. Inventory given up at Forfar, 25 April 1912, by Mary Ann Elizabeth Fairweather or Doig, Caldrum Cottage, Montrose Street aforesaid, Executrix nominated in Will or Deed, dated 16 November 1899, and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Forfar, 25 April 1912. Value of Estate, �115, 17s. 1d.
Note:   In 1851 David was a journeyman blacksmith and a lodger with James Bell at 3 Kincardine Street
