a. Note:   Stewart was listed as a "lawful" son. Stewart arrived in Waimate, New Zealand in May 1874. He is listed in the voter roll of 1876/7 for Waimate, South Canterbury, NZ. While in NZ he worked the West Coast goldfields. He became friends with the later Priemer of New Zealand, Dick Seddon. He appears on the 1880-1 Electoral Rolls in Waimate, moving soon after to Australia. He later returned to Scotland.
  In 1901 Stewart was a married vitner boarding with George Watt and family at 100 Keptie Street, Arbroath.
  Stewart died a pauper at the Poorhouse in Arbroath. Witness to his death certificate was the House Governor J. Robertson.
