Note: Information (both new and corrective) provided by Katherine Ann Pearson KG4KINFOLK@@aol.com Letter from John B. King, Hardin County, KY to his father William King of Nelson County. The letter was found in Nashville, TN in an old trunk belonging to Abner King, son of William. Hardin County, October 10, 1821 Dear Honored Father: I received your letter by Mr. Cash which I should have answered by him had I not confidently expected that J. Cash would have attended the Association, but owing to the inclemency of the weather for some time before he could not pay attention to his business which was necessary to arrange it in proper order for him to leave it. I left home on Sunday morning and left my family in common health, but there are some cases of sickness in the neighborhood and a great deal between there and here, and in this neighborhood there are numbers under sore affliction. I arrived here last evening at dark having been delayed to attend to some business by the way and received your letter of 2d October informing me of the state of my business relative the suit vs. Funk's heirs. I was truly sorry that so much trouble and fatigue had involved you yet I must acknowledge the strong obligation I am laid under to you for your indefatigable attention to the business. I wish to hear from you as often as every two months at least and as much oftener as you may seem necessary to give me intelligence that may be satisfactory or advantageous, direct letters to Hillsborough Post Office, Orange County, which has been lately established in two miles of my house. I will not omit my duty in writing to you more frequently than I have done. Remember my love to my sister and Brother and Family. I am dear father your affectionate son. John B. King
