Note: There has been some confusion between Joseph Cash and Joseph Cash, Jr. - some had thought them to be the same person. However, when George Mason deeded land to Joseph Cash (who would have been around 68 at the birth of his last child, Elizabeth), he named the wife as Susannah and the daughter as Ann. Joseph Cash (Sr.) was married to Susannah Mason and had a daughter named Ann. This Joseph Cash, Jr. was their son.
In his will of 1779, Joseph Cash referred to Ann as "my daughter Ann Hall." His daughter was married to John Hall. When Joseph's land was surveyed in 1779, Joseph Cash Hall (his grandson by Ann Cash Hall and John Hall) was named as chain carrier on the survey party. Joseph Cash Hall was also granted land on the same dates as Joseph Cash and Joseph Cash, Jr., indicating that he was over 21 at that.

In their Revolutionary War Pension Applications, both Peter Cash and James Cash (brothers of Joseph Cash, Jr.) give as their place of birth Fairfax Co., VA and that they moved from there to Granville Co., NC in 1774, further supporting the evidence that the Joseph married to Susannah in Fairfax Co., VA and the Joseph married to Elizabeth in Granville Co., NC were the same man, and the father of Joseph Cash, Jr.
