In an 1834 Census & Assessment for Waterloo Township, George Benninger is listed as head of a household of 5 males over 16; 4 males under 16; 3 females over 16 and 2 females under 16. George purchased 143 acres on Lot 80 of the German Land Company on July 30, 1833. Using the Upper Canada Naturalization records, it appears son John Michael arrived in Canada c1830. George and Jacob arrived approximately two years later and Franz Joseph in 1834. At this time it is still unknown his wife Susannah Wagner accompanied the family to Canada.
