Notes
a. Note:   BURIAL: Buried in Fork, NC near Cooleemee BIOGRAPHY: He moved the family from the family land in Anson County to South River, NC in Rowan County in approximately 1908. The family then moved to Cooleemee, NC in Rowan County in approximately 1910. My mother does not remember him ever having a job or hearing anyone talk about about her grandfather's profession.
BIOGRAPHY: He was born on the family land in Anson County. This land had been in the family prior to the Civil War and was a plantation. Former slaves and their descendents still lived on the farm up until after Thomas took his family to Rowan County; however, the family was very poor. My grandfather spoke of being in the same situation as the ex-slaves and their families.
BIOGRAPHY: There is a handwritten receipt for a slave and child that must come from the Anson County plantation prior to the Civil War.
BIOGRAPHY: He and his wife are buried in Fork, NC near Cooleemee, NC in Rowan County.
BIOGRAPHY: The house in Cooleemee is no longer there. In fact, the town as my mother remembers it is also gone. When my parents visited there in the 1990s, they were told that the town is the strip mall on the interstate.
Occupation: He was both a farmer and a security guard. The 1920 US Census showed his occupation as gatekeeper.
