Note: The Indianapolis News--November 1, 1944 GLIDER TROOPER FROM FRANKLIN IS MISSING (Special to The Indianapolis News) Franklin, Ind., Nov 1--Mr. and Mrs. Bynum Poynter, Franklin, have been notified that their son, Private James E. Poynter, 20, has been missing in action over Holland since October 1. Private Poynter has been overseas since May, and on arrival in England was transferred to the glider infantry. The parents last letter from him was received September 14. In it he wrote of being well and happy, saying that although the English people are nice to the soldiers, it is not like home. Private Poynter was employed at Camp Atterbury before going into service. Another son of Mr. and Mrs. Poynter, Sergeant Charles Poynter, is staioned at San Antonio, Tex. The Indianapolis Star--Febuary 6, 1945. Killed in Action Europe Private James E. Poynter of Franklin. James is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson, IN, beside his parents.
