a. Note:   At age 17 and 18, he attended Normal School in Lausanne (1842-1844). He passed the examinations, held in March, 1844, and became a primary school instructor in the town of Morges (on Lake Geneva) from Sept. 1844 to June, 1846.
 Henri was at Merchant House Morelli in Boufarik, Algeria by Dec. 12, 1828, Morelli being his brother-in-law, married to his sister, Marie.
  Henri had worked in Algeria for a food company with contracts to supply the French army. Worked as an engineer, surveying on the Suez Canal, returned to Switzerland for recuperation from a fever. Ordered to take a year off from work by his doctor, he went to Canada to visit brother Jean Emmanuel. Decided to stay, opened a lumber mill in Brompton Falls, near Vermont, in Quebec. Near to Sherbrooke.
 Married daughter of a Presbyterian missionary.
 Joliett, Que. was center of missionary operation, 45 miles from Montreal.
  He arrived in Canada sometime after November 12, 1866.
