Note: Will of John Kandle filed 22 Sep 1846 Will #4616 Q; FHL film 560,490 In the name of God Amen. I John Kandle of the Township of Lower Pittsgrove in the County of Salem and State of New Jersey being weak in Body but of sound disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament as follows. 1st Item: I give and devise unto my beloved wife Christeen Kandle all that farm where I now live and the improvements thereon together with all my timber and timber lands adjoining said farm except that which I hold in co-partnership with Adam Kandle and Lawrence Eake while she remains my widow and no longer. In case my wife should marry again I direct that she should have paid to her the sum of fifty-two dols yearly in place of said farm and timber and timber lands and in case she should die or marry then I order my executors to sell the said farm, timber and timber lands together with all she leaves to the best advantage and divid the proceeds among all my children equally, share and share alike. I also give unto my wife two horses, six cows of which she can take her choice, all the grain, wheat, corn, oats and hay upon said farm, and all the farming implements, waggon and other articles that she may think necessary or desire to manage said farm. Also I give her a certain piece of Cedar Swamp I purchased of James Brooks adjoining lot of Elijah D. Riley Esqr. containing two and a half acres more or less. These are in lieu of her dower in my lands. 2nd Item: I give to my son Henry Kandle the sum of Seven Hundred Dollars. 3rd Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catherine Downs wife of Jesse Downs the sum of one hundred dollars. 4th Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Duboise wife of Uriah Duboise one hundred dollars. 5th Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Christeen Jones wife of Samuel Jones the Interest of One hundred dollars to be paid to her yearly the said sum to be and remain in my executors hands and the interest only to be paid by them to the said Christeen Jones unless her circumstances do urgently require it if so they are directed to pay over to her the above sum of one hundred dollars but not otherwise. 6th Item: I give and bequeath unto my son John Kandle the sum of six hundred dollars and two horses. 7th Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Miller wife of Joseph Miller the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars. 8th Item: I direct and order that my executors or their representatives pay or cause to be paid unto my two remaining daughters now in their minority as they arrive at the age of eighteen ... Sarah Kandle and Lydia Kandle each the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars with interest for the same. 9th Item: I direct that such of my personal property as shall be left after my wife's selection shall be sold in connection with the following real estate. First the House and Land adjoining where Samuel Jones now lives.
