Note: "Memoirs of Milwaukee County" Vol 2--LOUIS NUESSE, the secretary of the Rockwell Manufacturing companya, was born in Milwaukee, on Aparil 6, 1867, a son of Gustav and Christine (Freihube) Nuesse, both parents being natives of Germany. The father, who was born in Hanover, Germany, came to Milwaukee in 1848, and was for many years traveling representative of the old crockery firm of Mueller & Schickel, on East Water street. He died in January, 1900. The mother came to this country with her parents in 1852 and died in January, 1905. Louis Nuesse, the subject of this review, was reared in the Protestant faith, receiving his education in St. John's parochial school, which was supported by the members of "the old brown church," corner of Fourth and Prairie streets. Leaving school before he was quite thirteen years of age, he entered the employ of a wholesale millinery concern as errand boy. He was later with the cornillie Bros. Co., corner of Washington and Barclay streets, and in 1887 entered the employ of the then Sanger, Rockwell & Co., which later was made a stock company and for many years has been known as the Rockwell Manufacturing Company. Several years after this he was made a director in the company, and on the death of H. H. Rockwell was elected to the office of secretary, which position he now holds. Mr. Nuesse is a member of the Merchants' & Manufacturers' Association, also of the Athletic Club. On Maya 4, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Werner, daughter of Valentine and Emily (Klug) Werner, early German arrivals in Milwaukee. Mr. Nuesse's wife died Feb. 15, 1907, as did also his daughter. Three boys, Louis, Jr., Elmer and Arthur, survive with the father. Death Notices: LOUIS NUESSE DIES AT WORK -- Secretary of Rockwell Mfg. Co. Is Victim of Apoplexy. Stricken with apoplaexy in the washroom of the rockwell Manufacturing Co. Wednesday, Louis Nuesse, sr., 61, secretary of the firm for 27 years, was found dead by employes. They forced their way into the room after he had been gone from his duties for about a half hour. Mr. Nuesse was born in Milwaukee. He had been connected with the Rockwell company since 1888. He was a member of the Athletic club. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Nuesse; four sons, Lieut. Louis, jr. of the United States navy; Elmer, chicago; Arthur, University of Wisconsin student, and Carl, Milwaukee; two brothers, George, former city editor of The Journal, and Adolph, Turtle Lake, Wis; three sisters, Elizabeth Nuesse; Mrs. Theresa Page, Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Helen Keck, Los Angeles. Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen's church at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Home cemetery. LOUIS NUESSE DIES SUDDENLY--Secretary of Rockwell Co. Is Victim of Heart Attock (sic) at the Age of 61 -- Louis Nuesse, 61, secretary of the rockwell Manufacturing company, and for the greater part of his life a resident of the South Side, died suddenly Tuesday, March 21, while at the office of the Rockwell Manufacturing company, Sixth avenue and Park street. The cause of his death was a heart attack. His passing was a shock to many friends and his sorrowing family, since he had appeared to be in his usual health just before he was seized. Mr. Nuesse, who was born in Milwaukee, was 61 years of age. He had been with the Rockwell Manufacturing company for over forty years, and was well known among sash and door manufacturers of the Northwest. Previous to his affiliation with the Rockwell company, he was associated with Cornillie Bros., ice box manufacturers of the South Side. He was a man of great capacity for work and a conscientious official and citizen, who found time likewise to devote to his family and his home. He was respected for many sterling qualities. For several years Mr. Nuesse has lived at 485 Sixty-eighth street, Wauwatosa. Those surviving Mr. Nuesse are his wife, Dorothy, nee Meibohm, four sons, Louis, Elmer, Arthur, and Carl. His oldest son, Louis, is a lieutenant in the United States navy, serving on the U.S.S. Texas now on the Pacific ocean; Elmer is connected with the chicago Rapid Transit company, Arthur is at the University of Wisconsin, and Carl is attending high school in this city. Mr. Nuesse is also survived by a brother, George, and a sister, Elizabeth, both of this city, also a brother, Adolph Nuesse of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, a sister Mrs. Theresa Page of Columbus, Ohio, and a sister Mrs. Helen Keck of Los Angeles, California. Funeral services will be conducted from the St. Stephens church, Grove and Scott streets, at 2:30 Friday afternoon. Burial will be in Forest Home cemetery. The pallbearers will be Messrs. A. W. Glawe, Geo. Ryan, Rud. Niemann, Geo. Klenk, Ed. Meier, John Bierkhardt. In respect to the memory of Mr. Nuesse The Rockwell Manufacturing company, will be closed Friday afternoon.
