Note: Born in Tluste on the Shabbat after Shavuot of 1907, the Costa Rican papers have an estimated date. In 1934 he followed his brother Gabriel who had traveled to Costa Rica on 1931. He took a 3/4 hr flight from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, Holland, and then a 43 day boat trip on the "Simon Bolivar" to Limon, Costa Rica. When he arrived on Tuesday, May 20, he paid $25 fee in Limon. He had bought two cases of whiskey in Warsaw (96 bottles). He finished one case during the trip. The second was finished during a meeting of Jewish friends that came to welcome him at his brother's house in Cartago. Not even knowing any Spanish, he began working as an ambulant salesman in the areas of Aquiares, Turrialba and Juan Vias. He remembers a visit by the Pope to Tluste, in 1925. The Jews took out the Torahs from the Synagogue to greet the Pope together with the non-jews. The first thing the Pope did was to kiss the Torahs. Died on the Shabbat after Succos
