Note: Vt. Phoenix Oct. 21, 1898 Maurice O'Connor, 76, died at his home on Vernon street at 7 o'clock Thursday morning from the effects of a paralytic shock which he sustained about two weeks ago. The funeral will be held from the Catholic church at 9 o'clock Saturday morning, Rev. Father Cunningham officiating. Mr O'Connor was born at Mt. Brendon, County Clare, Ireland in 1823.* He came to the United States in 1847 and the following year located in this town, being one of the first Irishmen to settle in Brattleboro. He had lived in this town ever since, being employed on the railroad most of the time. His wife died 11 years ago. Mr. O'Connor is survived by four children: John and Mary of Brattleboro; James of Hartford, Conn.; and Mrs. P. Heffron of Putney. *Probably referring to Mt Brandon, Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry Ireland. When looking up daughter Johannah O'Connor's information, it listed "Morris O'Conner" as father; see Johannah O'Connor notes. Morris could not write but could read.
