a. Note:   Injuries Fatal to O'Connor Boy
 Knocked Down by Automobile Driven by H.P. Yearly
 Dies in Hospital Within an Hour
  Accident on Canal Street Late Saturday Afternoon--- Lad Was Crossing Canal Street and Ran in Front of Machine--- Funeral This Morning.
  John O'Connor, 8, son of Mr and Mrs. Charles R. O'Connor of 67 Canal Street was fatally injured Saturday afternoon about 5:15 o'clock when he was struck by an automobile driven by Herbert P. Yearly of Chapin street. He died less than an hour later at the Memorial hospital.
  The fatality occurred in front of the residence of Sewall Morse on Canal street. The boy attempted to cross the street from the northerly side and after passing behind an automobile going in a westerly direction stepped directly into the path of Mr. Yearly's machine, which was going in the opposite direction. Mr Yearly did not see him until the boy stepped from behind the other car and did not have time to avoid an accident.
  The boy was thrown to the ground violently and was rendered unconscious. He was picked up by Mr. Yearly and taken to the hospital, where he was attended by Dr George R. Anderson, who found that he sustained fractures of the upper and lower jaws, a broken cheek bone and a fracture at the base of the skull.
  State's Atty Arthur V.D. Piper investigated the accident and was of the opinion that it was unavoidable and no arrest was made.
  The boy's older sister was operated on last week Monday for appendicitis and is the Melrose Hospital. The father of the children is employed by the American Express Railway Co. in Hartford, Conn. He came here at once on being informed of the accident.
  John O'Connor was born in Brattleboro, April 3, 1915, son of Charles R. and Isabel (Gorman) O'Connor. He was in the fourth grade in the Parochial school. Besides his parents he leaves one sister, Mildred 10. His mother had just gotten home from a visit to the little girl in the hospital when she was told of the accident to her son.
  The funeral was held in St. Michaels's Roman Catholic church this morning at 9 o'clock Rev. Robert Joyce, curate officiating. Mrs. William Miles sang Hark, Hark, My Soul .There was a profusion of beautiful flowers. The burial took place in St. Michaels cemetery. The bearers were schoolmates Francis Rancourt, William Rancourt, Harry Pellerin and George Danyew.
