Note: 1900 census says Mary emigrated in 1865 and was in the US 35 years. It also states Mary's birth year as 1853, with Mary at age 47 and husband John 48 born 1850. The census was taken June 4th 1900, Brattleboro, Vt. Three living children out of six births. Her oldest son John died in Feb of that year... he was a Dr. birthdate range 1850-1855 The Aug. 5,1870 census of Putney Vt has Mary Heffron as a domestic servant, aged 20. That would put her birth year 1850. Her family is in this census also but living as a group with all younger siblings together. Aug 3, 1870: all born in Ireland Robert Hefferan day laborer, could not read or write. Age 40. Bridget "keeping house", could not read or write. Age 35. Patrick day laborer Age 15. Margaret could not write Age 12 James attending school Age 9. Besides her husband , she left 2 sons, Charles, and George all of Hartford and a daughter Mrs Frank Weeks of Agawam, Mass. She also left two sisters: Mrs. Margaret Crowley and Miss Catherine Hefferon , both of Hartford. The funeral was set for St. Michael's Church in Brattleboro, Vermont for Saturday at 9 am, with burial at St Michael's Cemetery. The body was at J. J. & F. Ahern Funeral Home at 35 Chapel St in Hartford until noon.-- _____________________________________ Brattleboro Daily Reformer May 7, 1931 Mrs. John O'Connor Dies in Hartford Wife of former Brattleboro Brick Mason Passes in Home of Son, George , this Forenoon. Mrs. Mary (Heffron) O'Connor, about 75, formerly of Brattleboro, wife of a John O'Connor, for many years a well- known contractor and brick mason in this town, died this forenoon at the home of his son, George O'Connor, in Hartford, /conn., where the couple went about a year ago to make their home because of Mrs. O'Connor's failing health. Her health had failed rapidly the past few months. She was born in Hollymount, Ireland, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Heffron, who later moved to this country, settling in Putney. Her marriage to Mr. O'Connor took place in Putney July 14, 1874 and after living a short time in Worcester Mass. the couple came to this town where they had always lived. Mr. O'Connor was active in his trade as contractor many years and built several local buildings, including business blocks and also buildings in surrounding towns. Besides her husband she leaves two sons, George and Charles both of Hartford, a daughter, Mrs. Francis Weeks of Agawam, Mass., two grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs Margaret Crowley of Springfield, Mass. and Miss Katherine Heffron of West Hartford. A son, Dr. John O'Connor, died in 1900. Mrs. O'Connor was a member of the L.C. B. A. of Brattleboro. The body will arrive here late tomorrow afternoon and will be at Fleming's funeral chapel until the funeral at St Michael's Roman Catholic church Saturday morning at 9:30. The burial will take place in St Michael's cemetery. ___________________________________________ Brattleboro Daily Reformer May 9, 1931 Funeral Today of Mrs. O'Connor Former Brattleboro Woman, Who Died in Son's Home, Buried in St Michael's Cemetery Funeral services for Mrs. John O'Connor formerly of Brattleboro, who died in Hartford, Conn., thursday, were held this morning at 9:30 o'clock at St Michael's Roman Catholic church. Rev. J. P. Rand officiating and celebrating requiem high mass. The bearers were H. B. Haus, Nicholas Baker. John Kaine and Richard Heaphy. The burial took place in St Michael's cemetery. Those present from out of town were John O'Connor, Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor and family, Mr. and Mrs. George O'Connor and family, Miss Katherine Heffron and Mrs. Robert Hinckley, all of Hartford. Mr and Mrs. Francis Weeks, and Mrs. Margaret Crowley, Mrs Barrett and Harry Crowley all of Springfield Mass., Mrs S Gray, Daniel Crowley, Mrs. Merton Granfield and daughter, Elizabeth. of Bellow Falls and Mrs. William Ryan of Keene.
