a. Note:   ringfield, NB. Both were shown as being age 35. They lived on the east side of the Great Road leading to the Washademack and the south side of Bellisle Bay. He was listed as a farmer. At that time, Springfield was comprised of 221 families, 3 saw mills, 1 tannery, 12 schools, 5 grist mills, and had 9,148 acres of cleared land.
  By the 1871 Canadian census, Benjamin was listed as a tenant farmer on a 150 acre farm -- 100 acres werre improved and 50 acres were pasture. They raised oats, buckwheat, potatoes, beets, and hay. They had 2 horses, 2 horned cattle, 7 sheep, 2 swine, and 2 foxes. They made butter, wool, homemade cloth, and flannel.
