Note:   Family tradition - Clemens came to us 1867 to Aviston, Clinton Co., IL as he was drafted into German army. The night before having to report he & 30 other men took a boat to sea. Spent 3 months at ocean before coming to land
Note: Many Germans came to the U.S. via Liverpool, England. They often came in German steamers direct from Hamburg or Breman. They are convied to Hull by water and thence across England to Liverpool by rail. Per The Immigrant's Progress, in the Everton's Genealogical Helper, Sept-Oct. 1997.
Clemens was found in the following census records: 1870 Township 1NR 4W - post office Germantown, Clemens age 27 born Hanover German, wife Mina 25 born Hanover, Germany & Joseph age 1 born IL. 1880 Sugar Creek Twp., Clinton Co., IL Census, page 2 - son Herman, age 6 resided with the Feldman family in this census, in the town of Breese. 1900 - not searched 1910 - Aviston Village, Sugar Creek Twp., Clinton Co., IL, page 7 - noted that Catherine was married only once, had seven children, 5 alive. 1920 - Aviston Village, Sugar Creek Twp., Clinton Co., IL, page 2 - noted a middle initial as "J". Also said immigrated in 1867, naturalized in 1876. Wife Catherine immigrated 1875.

Death certificate for Clemens stated died arteries Sclerosis - hardening or thickening of organ or tissue. His father is noted at Clemens on death certificate.
Marriage record to Mary Catherine Brinker, she was 23 years old, of Aviston. Noted her parents as Herman H. Brinker and Mary A. Albers. Clemens was 33 years old, 2nd marriage, of Aviston, parents Herman Kuhl and Eliza Meischa. Witnesses were J. Reiupe? and Mellauchak?

Carlyle Constitution - 3 Oct. 1924 - Albers - Mrs. John Buss, Jr. boarded the train for Germantown Monday morning. 26 Dec. 1925 - Germantown - Mr. John Buss for some time janitor of St. Dominics Parish in Breese, IL moved his household effects to Germantown Friday. Mr. Buss is in bad health.
