Notes
a. Note:   When Deborah with her two young sons Burton (17) and Benton (15) came to Minnesota it was through the urging of her brother John Brown. He
thought Minnesota would be a good place for these young men to make a
 start.
John had already established the Evergreen Farm in Providence township
south of Dawson. When John came to Minnesota no one thought that trees
would grow in the area. He was confident they would and proceeded to plant Cottonwood along the highways and willows along the 40 lines. He
 also planted groves for windbreaks.
John spent two terms in the legislature and got his (Tree Claim) law
 enacted.
Deborah bought the 160a in Providence township for $1300.00 from Emelis
Brown who was a son of John's. She also paid $125.00 an acre for 200
acres of railroad land. She later bought 640 acres of land in Hamlin
township. With the Hamlin land she had 1000 acres the same as she had
had in Illinois. She wanted to keep the titles in her name and the boys
had a h___ of a time getting those titles.
Deborah stayed a while in Minnesota but did go back to Illinois to spend
 her last days.[brownpeter.FTW]
