Notes
a. Note:   Article by Ruth R. Startt from "Start Talkin'," a newsletter for descendants of E. Kenly and Nora Startt (v. 7, Summer/Fall 1997):
"[Captain William Andrew Startt] was the owner and captain of a sailing vessel that he used (among other things) to transport grain grown by local farmers to Baltimore, where he negotiated the sales and returned the proceeds to the farmers. This was one of his means of earning a living.
"On one ill-fated trip (1875), he took his 10-year-old son, Edward Kenly, with him. As they neared Baltimore, they encountered a severe storm. The boom came around and knocked young Edward Kenly overboard. The sailors who witnessed this didnot notify his father fearing he would go over after his son, with no chance of saving him and with a big chance of losing his own life. A month after the boy's death, his body washed up on Miller's Island near Baltimore Harbor. He is buried at St. Peter's Church Cemetery, Route 50 in Queen Anne's County. You pass it not too far from this end of the Bay Bridge coming to Easton.
"At the time of this accident, his mother (Sarah Elizabeth Plummer Startt) was pregnant. She gave birth to another son on Feb. 15, 1876, whom she also named Edward Kenly - my father."
