Notes
a. Note:   Jennie Queen Bartel was found in the 1900 Toledo census with her first husband Frank, living on Mount Rose Avenue, Adams twp., Lucas Co. Frank,
25, is employed as a hammerman. Jennie, 26, has borne three children,
but young Benjamin, age four, is the only one living. Grace and Bessie
 arrive later.
Frank left the family about 1905.
Jennie married the brother of Frank's friend Henry Richmond. A news
clipping discovered in an old family Bible was shared during the 1993
family reunion. The clipping indicated that Charles Richmond and Jennie
were married 21 JUN at the home of the bride's parents on Water Street,
Thornville, OH. The Rev. A. Harmount officiated.
Henry Richmond of Hamlin and Alberta Queen of Columbus Grove, were
attendants. This clipping provided more questions that answers. The
year of the wedding is not given, athough the family estimates that it
must have ocurred between 1905 and 1910. Henry (Charles' brother) and
Alberta (Jennie's sister) were married to each other -- but this clipping
would indicated that they were not yet married.
Charles and Jennie's family eventually moved from Toledo to nearby
Sylvania, Oh, and lived on what was called "Richmond Road." Jennie's
children were raised by Jennie and her second husband -- and Richmond's
memory is held in great love and esteem by the family.
Charles had one daughter by a previous marriage who was last known to
be living in Texas. Jennie and Charles had twins who died in infancy.
(There are informal snapshots of Jennie holding each of them up outside
the home in the light for the photographer, following their deaths.)
Charles Richmond, born in 1875, died 4 SEP 1938 at 63 years of chronic
myocarditis, and was buried in the soldiers and sailors section of the
Toledo Memorial Park, Sec. 6, grave 31. He had served in both the
Spanish American War (for which service he had received a letter of
commendation from President Theodore Roosevelt) and in World War I
(for which service he received a disability pension due to a wartime
mustard gas incident.) His funeral was conducted 7 SEP 1938 from the
 Oilivet Lutheran Church, Sylvania.
Jennie, 82, died 4 SEP 1956 of a cerebral embolism, and was buried in
sec. 2, lot 646, grave 2, next to her daughter Bessie in the same
 cemetery.
The 1920 census incidates that, at least for a time, Bessie, now 14, was
living with her sister Grace, now Mrs. Joseph Wolfinger. The family
lived at 3414 Chase Street, Toledo.
Grandpa Richmond drove a Model A Ford, always, even when they were
difficult to find. RIchmond also raised rabbits and branded them, reports
a fascinated granddaughter Ellen. Ellen lived with her grandparents,
Charles and Jennie, following her own parents divorce (around age 6)
until Charles' last illness and death (1938 -- about age 16).
