Note: I saw Popop (Calvin) for the last time on September 3, 1995. We were having
a birthday party for Keith and Jan at Mom's (Donna Otto) house. During the day
we got a call from Judith to tell us that Aunt Doris had passed away. Popop was
very upset by this. They left the next Tuesday for Wilson, N.C. to stay with Debbie
before going on to Myrtle Beach. Debbie was up here at a Doll and Bear Show at the time.
Memaw and Popop were taking care of Jamie. On the night that Popop died, Jamie was
up at Lake Wilson and they were waiting for her to come home. Popop was watching
television (either 20/20 or 60 minutes) and Memaw (Doris) had gone up to take a shower.
It was after 11 pm when she came back down and he had fallen asleep. She tried to
wake him up to go up to bed and he wouldn't wake up. She ran to Ralph's across the
street from Debbie, because he was with the Wilson Police Dept. and they called an
ambulance. Jamie came home right around this time, and Debra did also. The
medical personnel managed to get a heart beat but he had gone too long without
oxygen. They said his body just stopped. Nothing horrendous happend to his
heart...it just stopped beating.
