Notes
a. Note:   STEPHEN CLARK AGE 25 AND MISS LUCINTHA J DYE 15, BOTH OF JACKSON COUNTY ARKANS AS WERE MARRIED 27 NOV 1878 BY REV. W.S. GIPSON, A.M.E.
JACKSON COUNTY AR MAR RIAGE RECORD B, PAGE 38
 Page 2 of 2
I do not have a copy of the 1900 census f or the Stephen Clark family, but 1 do have the listing for Martin Dye's family, still in Bird Township:
Mart Dye, 57, born Oct 1852 (Note error), TN, both pa rents born TN
Carlina Dye, 52, wife, born May 1848, SC, both parents born SC, mother of
 1 child, none living
Mart and Carlina Dye were shown to have been ma rried 34 years Windell Sanders, 18, boarder, born Jan 1882 AR, father born GA, mother born unknown
Frank Sanders, 16, born Oct 1883 AR, father born GA, moth er born unknown
Louis Finch, 34, nephew, born Jan 1866 AR, father born TN, mot her born AR
Mart Dye was listed as a farmer, and Frank and Windell Sanders and Louis
 Finch were all
 listed as farm laborers
In 1901 Mart and Caroline Dye m oved to Diaz, just north of Newport, and lived there one or two years before mo ving to Newport.
Martin Dye died in 1907. His will names his wife Caroline as executrix
and gives her a life estate in his property. He left $1 to his brothe r
(as the will recites) Louis Finch, and at the death of Caroline his
estate wa s to be divided between
Katie Griffin and Louis Finch, except for $200, which was to go to his
adopted son, Henry Clay. He also left $100 to Lucy Clark.
Car oline Dye died in 1918. She left two wills made two weeks apart. Her
principal bequests were to her nephew, Mack Griffin, and Irene Atkins, a
12year-old girl she was raising. She also left $25 each to Lena Clark and
 Veneeda Clark Warren. (I
notice Vernealure Ann and Alena among the children you listed for Lucy
 Dye Clark.)
I find no record of an adoption of Lucinda J. Dye by Martin or Caroli ne, and 1 also do not find any guardianship for the child. 1 am sure the
relati onship was an informal one but one which remained intact until the
 deaths of Ma rtin and
 Caroline.
I trust this information is beneficial to you.
