Note: James E. Dyer was born on a farm, near what is now Milwaukee, WI, in1851. In 1857, at the age of six, he moved with his parents and familyto Douglas County, Kansas. On 27 December 1881 he and Bridget McEvoywere joined in marriage by the Catholic Priest, Elias Mayer. They homesteaded the 160 acre "Excelsior Farm" in Willow SpringsTownship, Douglas County, Kansas providing many improvements such as atile silo. They raised Shorthorn beef cattle and Percheron horses usedto till the soil and plant grain. They were one of the early owners of aFord automobile in their community and also enjoyed the benefits oftelephone service on the Baldwin Telephone System. James and Bridget had four sons of which three lived to adulthood and anadopted daughter. Their first son, Lewis, died in infancy at the age ofone and one-half years. Albert, Walter and John "Leo" grew up and becamemembers of the farming community near the area of their father's farm.Regina's whereabouts after leaving home is unknown.
