Note: James Edward Dyer's Obituary Published in the Lawrence Journal World onThursday, November 09, 1995: Baldwin -- Services for James Edward Dyer, 59, Lawrence, will be at11 a.m. Friday at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church here. Burial willbe in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin. Mr. Dyer died Monday, Nov. 06, 1995, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 07, 1936, in Baldwin, the son of James Leo and EdnaGay Thorne Dyer. He grew up in rural baldwin where he assisted his family on thefarm. He later helped build the Baldwin grain elevator. He graduatedfrom Prairie City Grade School and Baldwin High School. In 1958, heentered the U.S. Air Force and served until 1962. He worked for AnimatedDisplay in North Miami, Florida, and later went into business with hisfather, owning and operating ( a trucking service hauling buildingmaterials ) at the Wick's Lumber Co. until the early 1970's. He wasself-employed in the trucking business until his most recent employmentat the Prairie Ridge Apartments in Lawrence, where he worked in themaintenance department. Mr. Dyer was a member of Ives Chapel United Methodist Church inBaldwin. He married Juanita Foster on July 12, 1968. They were laterdivorced. He married Patti A. Mack on June 10, 1987, in Lawrence. Shedied October 02, 1995. Survivors include a daughter Cheryl Ragan, Baldwin; fivestepdaughters, Lorie Thomason, Gardner, Linda Westgate, Daytona Beach,Florida, Dottie Schuck, Christine Hartwell and Kimberlee Arnett, all ofLawrence, two stepsons, Ed Hartwell, Atlanta and Douglas Hartwell,Lawrence; two brothers, Glenn, Ocala, Florida and Robert, Bangkok,Thailand; and 11 grandchildren. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts FuneralHome in Baldwin, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Assn. or the DouglasCounty Visiting Nurses Assn. They may be sent in care of the funeralhome.
