Note: N2955 All evidence points to this James is the father of David. Kelly. Marriage Book A shows a marriage between James Kelly and Peggy (Margaret?) Campbell, March 4, 1813 in Jones Co., Georgia, performed by Icabod Cox. The marriage record was found in "GA Marriages 1811 through 1820". Georgia, County Marriages, 1785-1950 James Kelly and Randolph both obtained a land grants in Early Co. The 1820 Early Co., GA census lists as neighbors: William, James, Randol and Jesse Kelly James and Margaret Kelly are not the proven parents of David, but there is a strong probability. David named his first son, James, and his first daughter, Margaret. This James Kelly lived just a few households from Thornton Fowler when Thornton's daughter, Elizabeth, married David J. Kelly James was found in the census reports of Early Co., Georgia for 1820, 1830 and 1840. I found a land record indicating that he sold his land in 1843, and nothing can be found of him after that date. No will is on file in Early Co. The 1820 census appeared to have another young couple in the home. James was a neighbor of Thornton Fowler in the 1830 census 8 households away, and I found them together on several lists. Thornton Fowler was the father of Elizabeth Fowler, who married David Jackson Kelly. James Kelley was born about 1785, and died Nov. 18, 1849, on his plantation on the Yocoma River in LaFayette County, Mississippi, where he was a prosperous farmer. Before moving to Mississippi about 1845, he had lived in Georgia., probably in Jones County, not far from Macon, and then in Coweta County for a few years. He was married twice, and left ten children and many descendents today in Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas.
His first wife died in Georgia after the birth of eight children. I do not know her name for certain, but it may have been Mary Wyatt. His second wife was named Harriett. She was much younger than James Kelley, and after his death she married James Harrison and lived in LaFayettte County until she died about 1855. by Mrs. Rudene Kelley Morris, amendum: Rudene passed away Feb 25, 1985.

James was born in 1789, the son of William Kelley in Wilkes County, Georgia. His parents died before he was ten years old. His uncle Moses Walker raised James and his sister Jane. James and Jane drew land in the 1807 land lottery, being eligible as orphans, in Jones County, Georgia. He had eight children by his first wife (name unknown), and lived on the a farm near the Ocmulgee river in Jones County, Georgia. James and his family came to Coweta County after its formation in the 1825-26. The family later moved to Butts County and returned to Coweta County between 1828 and 1832. He, also, owned land in Carroll and Randolph County, GA (Source: James H. Kelley)
In 1832 James purchased about 810 acres in Coweta County in the area of Madras. James was a trustee of Concord Methodist Church, between Palmetto & Newnan, on the Old Campbellton Road, Coweta County, Georgia. About 1840 his first wife died, and he married Harriett (last name unknown). Harriett and James moved to Lafayette County, Mississippi in 1845. 45
